Flight cancellations have continued into 2024 with three of the country’s biggest airlines scrapping flights to or from Adelaide on Monday.
Four flights with Jetstar and Virgin were cancelled on Monday, with Melbourne’s bad weather behind at least two of the cancellations.
Jetstar flight JQ772 Melbourne to Adelaide scheduled for 8.50am was cancelled, along with the route’s return flight at 9.25am.
Jetstar’s later flights, including those to Melbourne, are on track for scheduled departures and arrivals.
However, Jetstar’s parent company, Qantas, cancelled flight QF6122 from Brisbane to Adelaide, which was scheduled for 12.20pm.
Heavy rain and low cloud around Melbourne has caused disruption to flights in and out of the Victorian capital, including routes to Adelaide.
Affected passengers will be offered to reschedule their flight to the next available departure, or a refund via an airline voucher.
Virgin flight VA1385 from Adelaide to Brisbane, initially scheduled for a 6.10am departure, was the first to be cancelled at 7.10am Monday.
The airline’s other flights – VA218 flying Adelaide to Melbourne on Monday – was also cancelled.
It follows the cancellation of six Virgin flights, including routes to or from Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, on Sunday because of operational reasons, engineering issues and crew resources.
A Virgin Australia spokesman said the airline apologised to passengers whose plans were disrupted “due to unforeseen changes”.
“Our team is working hard to ensure all passengers booked on our services get to their destination safely and as soon as possible,” the spokesman said.
