He is the first life lost on South Australian roads this year, compared to five at the same time last year.
In September last year, a 77-year-old Bridgewater man was killed when a Hino truck and Isuzu truck crashed on the uptrack of the South Eastern Freeway.
The crash happened at the Eagle On the Hill off-ramp.
There were 865 serious injuries – the most since 2011 – and 99 lives lost across SA in 2021.
Distraction contributed to 46 per cent of fatal crashes.
“Last year was incredibly hard for so many South Australians, especially those who lost loved ones in road tragedies,” Road Safety Minister Vincent Tarzia said.
“I’m pleading with every motorist to be responsible and safe on our roads in 2022.”
