Trent Morey, victim of the state’s rental crisis, has his car stolen

A man sleeping in a caravan while looking for a home to rent has now had his car stolen. But technology meant he could turn the tables on the thieves.

A victim of the state’s rental crisis has now been robbed of his car – while he slept in a caravan at Seaford Rise.

Trent Morey heard a commotion about 3am Monday as his keys to his Nissan Navara were allegedly being stolen.

As the thieves drove off, the car crashed into a number of bins on the street.

“I have the keys hanging just on the inside of my caravan here, so all they had to do is open up the door and see the keys hanging,” Mr Morey told 7 News.

Police were called and searched the area while Mr Morey guided them to the car’s location through a GPS tracker on his keys to Telegraph Rd.

The car was found abandoned.

Police patrols later arrested a boy on Flagpole Rd.

Two other youths were found hiding in the yard of a premises on the street and were also arrested.

A Morphett Vale boy, 13, and a Burton boy, 14, have been charged with illegal use and theft and a Seaford Meadows man, 19, was also charged.

The oldest of the young men, TreyMcCauley, faced the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday.

Mr Morey is currently living in his brother-in-law Chris Ryan’s front yard due to the rental crisis.

“It’s just absolutely insane they have the ability to just do that and not care,” Mr Ryan said.
