Drenching rain to hit SA, with a damaging wind warning for later on Thursday

The heavy rainfall most of parts of SA woke up to isn’t going anywhere for the next two days, with warnings of damaging winds later on Thursday.

The rain is here, and isn’t going away, with a rainfall to hit the state over the next two days amid a warning of damaging winds – but the sky is forecast to clear in time for the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecasted up to 20mm of rain across metropolitan Adelaide throughout Thursday.

Over a 24-hour period until 9am on Thursday, Adelaide recorded 13.6mm of rainfall.

Heavy rainfall will bring cooler temperatures, with a max of 15C on Thursday in Adelaide and 13C for Mount Barker.

Rain will fall across Adelaide on Thursday morning, with a very high chance thunderstorms and possible hail in the evening.

Winds will also pick up, reaching up to 30-45km/h later in the afternoon and the BOM has issued a damaging winds warning for large parts of the state as the cold front sweeps the state.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN RAIN RADAR

Residents in the Mount Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Island, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of Murraylands districts can expect with strong westerly winds.

Damaging winds are being forecast for the Mt Lofty Ranges from late Thursday afternoon, averaging 60 to 70 km/h and reaching between 90 to 100 km/h.

Similar damaging winds are likely to hit Kangaroo Island, the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, coastal areas of the Murraylands, and the Upper South East and the Lower South East.

The rainy weather will continue into Friday, with a maximum of 14C in Adelaide, Glenelg and Noarlunga, 13C in Elizabeth and 12C in Mount Barker, and a possibility of small hail.

But the weekend will bring better weather, with clearing skies, sunny conditions, and a maximum of 16C on Saturday – and even up to 20C on Sunday.
