A man has died on the road at Wingfield after police discovered him collapsed next to a semi-trailer.
Police reported just before 10am Wednesday that a patrol was travelling along Hanson Rd when officers came across a man lying on the road next to a truck.
It is believed the man’s truck had broken down on Hanson Rd, and while the driver was attempting to fix the issue, it rolled and struck him.
Paramedics attempted to revive the 65-year-old Mawson Lakes man but he died at the scene.
A man who said he was a witness to the incident took to Facebook to detail the scene.
“Bloke sadly squashed by a road train … be safe out there … horrible way to go,” he posted.
Major Crash officers are investigating.
Earlier on Wednesday, police reported a workplace incident had closed Hanson Rd for southbound traffic from the Port River Expressway to Hines Road.
SA Ambulance units, the MFS and the SES were all dispatched to the scene.
The latest tragedy follows the death of Charlie Stevens, the 18-year-old son of Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, who was killed in an alleged horror hit-run incident at Goolwa Beach during South Australia’s Schoolies festival.
Commissioner Stevens released a heart-wrenching handwritten letter on Tuesday morning, paying tribute to his son “101” – the 101st life lost on our roads this year.
NOTE: The lives lost number was adjusted by SAPOL on December 5 after a crash at Moppa and a crash in Mount Barker were both deemed medical episodes. Charlie Stevens is now #99 in the 2023 tally.
