South Australia’s promising apprentice jockey Chelsey Reynolds has started opening her eyes after being put into an induced coma following a serious riding accident.

Racing SA updated their community on Friday morning on the condition of the 28-year-old horse rider.

“Chelsey remains in intensive care at the Flinders Medical Centre where she is being treated for a serious head injury,” they posted on their Facebook page.

“Her sedation levels are being reduced and she is opening her eyes, but is not yet responding.

“Chelsey’s family have told us that her recovery is going to be long and slow, but she will continue to have all the care and love she needs.”

The racing body also reminded everyone their priority of ensuring privacy for the Reynolds’ family and friends “during this tough time”.
