Promising apprentice jockey Chelsey Reynolds remains in a critical condition following a horro trackwork fall last week.
The 28-year-old was flown to from the Fleurieu Peninsula to Flinders Medical Centre in a critical condition, where she was placed in an induced coma and remains.
In a brief statement, Racing SA said Reynolds was receiving the “best possible care” while in hospital.
“We have been advised through her family that Chelsey is likely to be kept in an induced coma for a number of days,” Racing SA said.
“Chelsey is receiving the best possible care, and we thank the dedicated medical team at the Flinders Medical Centre.
“While we completely understand everyone’s interest in Chelsey’s condition, we would again ask that the privacy of Chelsey’s family remains respected.”
The racing body urged any participants in the industry to seek support during the “challenging” period.
“We also would like to acknowledge the importance of looking out for one another during these times,” it said.
“Compassion and support within our community can go a long way.”
It comes as fellow jockeys, trainers and racing fans issued their thoughts for Reynolds’ recovery after the trackwork fall.
She had been working on an uphill sand gallop on a private property on the Fleurieu Peninsula when the incident occurred.
The Strathalbyn Racing Club took to social media on Wednesday morning to share “thoughts and prayers” as the award-winning apprentice from Currency Creek remains in hospital.
Others have sent their well-wishes to the rider’s family.
“Praying for her and her family,” one wrote.
“Must be a difficult time.”
“Sending positive vibes your way Chels. And love to the family,” wrote another.
Reynolds, who is indentured to Wayne Francis and Glen Kent and has seven winners from 52 rides, tasted success in her very first race, saluting on The Great Baby at Balaklava on July 30 last year.
