Apprentice jockey Chelsey Reynolds undergoes brain surgery at Flinders Medical Centre after horse fall

SA apprentice jockey Chelsey Reynolds has undergone delicate surgery in hospital after suffering critical injuries in a horse fall earlier this month.

South Australian apprentice jockey Chelsey Reynolds has had delicate brain surgery following a horror trackwork fall that left her with critical injuries.

Racing SA posted a health update on the 28-year-old jockey after being in contact with Reynolds’ family.

“Chelsey underwent craniotomy surgery earlier this week to relieve pressure on her brain,” the statement said.

“She remains in an induced coma and her condition, while still critical, remains stable.”

The racing community also wrote their thanks to the health care professionals who have been looking after Reynolds at hospital.

“Everyone at Racing SA would again like to thank the outstanding team at the Flinders Medical Centre for their care of Chelsey and the South Australian community for their continued messages of love and support,” they said.

“We would again ask that the privacy of Chelsey’s family remains respected, and we will provide updates as appropriate.”

Well wishers responding to the post shared their hopes of a speedy recovery for Reynolds.

Michelle Mckenzie wrote: “Updates like this are so precious, thank you. Sending healing vibes your way Chels xx”

Tamar Herron said: “Oh Chelsey, hang in there little gorgeous buddy xxx We’re all sending you all of our love and strength.”

Reynolds was injured in a horror fall while working on an uphill sand gallop on private property at Finniss on the Fleurieu Peninsula on February 13.

She was flown by helicopter to the Flinders Medical Centre with critical injuries.

The promising jockey had been indentured to horse trainers Wayne Francis and Glen Kent and has ridden seven winners from 52 rides.
