A home in Adelaide’s northeast has been gutted by fire after a vape caught alight.
Just before 6pm on Tuesday, firefighters responded to reports of a unit fire on Noya Ave at Modbury Heights.
When MFS crews arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.
One side of a duplex was destroyed, while the neighbouring home suffered minor damage.
The total damage bill was about $300,000.
No one was home at the time of the fire, with neighbours evacuating before emergency services arrived.
The blaze was extinguished within half an hour after the roof partially collapsed.
Witness Michael Pringle said he walked towards the burning home to check if anyone was inside.
“It was horrible,” he told 9News.
Peter Phelps, who also witnessed the fire, said the blaze was “terrifying”.
MFS investigator Andrew French said vapes were susceptible to catching alight if they weren’t “treated with care”.
“Don’t overcharge them, be careful with them, don’t damage them, don’t throw them around,” he said.
