Police say medical episode may have caused crash at Berri in the Riverland

Police have revealed what they think may have caused a crash in the Riverland on Monday, which killed a Berri man.

A 72-year-old Berri man has died after a crash on Monday afternoon.

About 12.20pm, police received reports a car had crashed into a tree on Worman St at Berri.

A spokesperson for SA Police said a medical episode is believed to have caused the crash, with Major Crash investigators – who attended the scene – continuing investigations.

Worman St was closed between Lean St and Kay Ave, with access allowed for heavy vehicles.

Police urged motorists to avoid the area.

It was the second fatal crash in 24 hours, bringing the SA road toll to 84. Several hours later a 24-year-old man’s car ploughed down an embankment at Cleland. He died overnight in hospital.

And on Thursday, a Kudla man was killed in a horrific crash between a car and truck at Reeves Plains on Monday.

Emergency services were called to Gawler Rd, Reeves Plains, near Gawler about 2.15pm on Thursday afternoon after reports a car and truck had collided.

The driver, a 53-year-old man and sole occupant of the sedan died at the scene, after his vehicle was partially crushed by the truck.

The truck driver, a 52-year-old man from One Tree Hill, sustained minor injuries and was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
