Police and emergency services at Cleland after car plunges down embankment

Police and emergency services have raced to Cleland, in the Adelaide Hills, after a car plunged from an embankment. Part of Mount Lofty Summit Road remains closed.

A driver has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after plunging from an embankment on Mount Lofty Road in the Adelaide Hills.

Police and emergency services raced to Cleland just before 3.30pm Monday after the car came off the road.

The crash took place less than 200 metres from the Yerrang Track entrance of Cleland National Park, about 2km from Mount Lofty summit.

The Advertiser understands the person was trapped in the vehicle for about 30 minutes before being taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious condition.

Police said there were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Mount Lofty Summit Road remains closed between Greenhill Road and Gores Road, with motorists advised to avoid the area.

The accident comes after Major Crash investigators attended a serious accident in the Riverland, where a car slammed into a tree about 12.20pm Monday.
