A $20m Saturday Lotto superdraw was held on September 3 – just three weeks after the last superdraw handed out $5m each to four lucky winners.

Because the odds of winning Saturday Lotto are much higher than Powerball or OzLotto (one in 8.14 million compared to one in 134.49m and one in 62.89m), the draw is likely to produce several instant millionaires.

“Some players tell us they deliberately pick outlets that have recently sold a major prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing good fortune awaits for them elsewhere,” said The Lott spokesman James Eddy.

For the sixth year in a row, Victorian suburbs and towns have topped the national charts of lotto winners, with 153 Division 1 winners last financial year nabbing $467m in prize money.

A total of 532 winners of the top prize were announced throughout Australia between July 2021 and June 2022.

SA had just 42 of them, and the lucky locals took home a total of just under $60m. Three of the winning tickets were sold in CBD outlets.

NSW and the ACT were home to 141 winners, totalling $464m in prize money.

Queensland welcomed 104 new millionaires ($350m) and Western Australia had 73 winners ($256m).

The last big Powerball draw in June saw a single winner in Canberra scoop the entire $60.7m jackpot.
