A Labor government would add funds to the current Main South Rd upgrade between Aldinga and Sellicks to deliver a full duplication of the road from Seaford to Sellicks.
Additional overtaking lanes between Myponga and Cape Jervis would also be built to upgrade the dangerous road.
Labor leader Peter Malinauskas said there would be three new overtaking lanes between Myponga and Cape Jervis.
“Only Labor has a plan to deliver a genuine duplication of Main South Road from Seaford to Sellicks for the future of the South,’’ he said.
“I have visited communities in the South many times and I know the frustration of local people who rely every single day on Main South Road and they need it fixed.”
The March 19 election pledge restores a 2018 State Election promise by Labor, at a cost of $125m, which was changed when the Liberal Party won the poll.
Scrapped was a fourth lane for Main South Rd between Aldinga and Sellicks, and a system of alternating three lanes in an overtaking lane configuration implemented instead.
The current State Government option is costing $560m, and includes upgrading Victor Harbor Rd which connects to Liberal seat of Finniss.
Main South Rd services the Labor electorate of Mawson, and the Labor plan seeks to restore the status of the road south of where Victor Harbor traffic has turned off.
Mr Malinauskas said Labor would also build a grade separation and change road alignment to upgrade the west running Aldinga Beach Rd and east running Aldinga Rd intersections.
Currently the two roads do not align and a significant amount of traffic must enter South Road before quickly turning off again.
