Main South Road and Victor Harbor Rd duplication project designs to increase safety and traffic flow have been revealed.

The work has been split into two stages, with the first stage a duplication of Main South Rd, from Seaford to Aldinga, including an overpass at the intersection of Tatachilla and Maslin Beach roads.

There will be a grade separation at Main South and Port roads and a dual lane roundabout at Main South and Aldinga roads.

Stage 2 will add a second lane between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach, and road safety additions.

Dual lanes will be built along Victor Harbor Rd between Main South Rd and the McLaren Vale turnoff and extra safety measures will be added elsewhere on the road.

Transport Minister Corey Wingard said the project enjoyed overwhelming community support.

“There was 92 per cent community support for the Stage 1 duplication ... which will improve road safety and boost productivity,” he said.

Between 2015 and 2019, between Griffiths Drive and Aldinga Beach Road, there were 187 reported crashes including two fatal crashes. Vehicles using this route will increase from 18,000 to 26,000 per day by 2036.

The $560m state and commonwealth projects will support 770 full-time jobs each year during construction.
