International tennis stars heading to Memorial Drive Tennis Centre

Two new International tennis events will be coming to Adelaide’s Memorial Drive in January 2022.

The newly upgraded Memorial Drive Tennis Centre will be home back-to-back International tennis events in early 2022.

Two tournaments will be held at the centre, one on January 2 to 9 featuring WTA 500 and ATP 250 tournaments, and another from January 9 to 15, also a WTA 500 and ATP 250 tournament.

Premier Steven Marshall said the events would create jobs and add vibrancy to SA.

“Our investment of $44 million for Stage Two of the Memorial Drive Redevelopment is creating a world-class venue capable of hosting not just tennis but a range of sporting and entertainment events into the future,” Mr Marshall said.

He said Stage Two work started in March and created 85 full-time jobs, 21 new apprenticeships and employed more than 350 people.

“Tennis events over the next decade are going to generate even more jobs for South Australians and attract thousands of people to our great state which in turn will boost our economy.”

Stage two, funded during the State Budget in November last year, is expected to be event-ready by the Adelaide International in January next year, while the entire project is due for completion in mid-2022.The first stage of the redevelopment was a $10 million roof upgrade.
