Brevet Sergeant Ian Todd has been released from hospital after he sustained life-threatening critical injuries when responding to a job at Crystal Brook on May 3.
A statement released by police said that Mr Todd, 53, left hospital on Monday night and is recovering at home surrounded by extended family.
Brevet Sergeant Jordan Allely, officer in charger of Crystal Brook, was also involved in the incident and suffered stab wounds to his right leg and arm – he was discharged from hospital the day after the incident.
Sgt Todd, officer in charge of Port Germein, was stabbed in the neck, arm and hands while attending a Symons St home in Crystal Brook over a domestic complaint about the occupant’s dog.
He was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious but stable condition and placed in an induced coma after hours of surgery to repair arterial damage.
Sean Scott Francis Ferris, 52, who attacked the officers, was shot dead at the scene.
A nearby neighbour rushed to the aid of the officers and waited until emergency services arrived.
The Advertiser understands the officers were attending the house after a domestic complaint about Mr Ferris’ dog, a husky named Buddy.
Sgt Todd was last week moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and had been recovering in a ward.
A statement released by his family last week said they were hopeful Sgt Todd would make a full recovery.
“Medical staff are increasingly optimistic that Ian will make a full recovery, and we are all hopeful for a positive outcome.”
The family extended its thanks to everyone who has offered their support.
“Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks to South Australia Police, the medical staff and the public for their support and well wishes at this difficult time,” the statement read.
