Brevet Sergeant Ian Todd has been moved out of the intensive care unit as he continues to recover from critical injuries suffered during the stabbing of two police officers at Crystal Brook last week.

The 53-year-old was stabbed in the neck by Sean Ferris during a violent incident at his home leaving him with critical injuries and forcing doctors to place him in an induced coma.

During the altercation Brevet Sergeant Jordan Allely, 32, officer in charge of Crystal Brook, suffered stab wounds to his right leg and arm, but was discharged from hospital last week.

While Sgt Todd remained in hospital on Wednesday, his family said – in a statement – that they are hopeful Sgt Todd will make a full recovery as he continued to progress over the past few days.

“While we know there is a long road ahead, Tuesday we reached another big milestone in Ian’s recovery as he was moved out of the RAH Intensive Care Unit.

“Medical staff are increasingly optimistic that Ian will make a full recovery, and we are all hopeful for a positive outcome.”

The family extended its thanks to everyone who has offered their support.

“Words cannot express our heartfelt thanks to South Australia Police, the medical staff and the public for their support and well wishes at this difficult time,” the statement read.

“Ian is encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive response from everyone, and we believe this support continues to play a significant role in Ian’s recovery.”

The attack on Sgt Todd and Sgt Allely – which resulted in Mr Ferris being shot dead – occurred after officers attended his Symons St home over an ongoing domestic complaint about the occupant’s dog.

A good Samaritan rushed to the aid of the officers until emergency services arrived, before both men were flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital

Port Germein Men’s Shed president Darren Skuse told The Advertiser last week that Sgt Todd was a gentleman and a devoted family man who was loved by all in the town.

“You know him as Ian, before you know him as a police officer,” he said.“He’s just a gentleman,” he said.

“I don’t have a bad word to say about him.”
