‘I started having a panic attack’: Mount Gambier woman shocked by $500,000 Instant Scratch-Its win

One lucky South Australian woman is now half a million dollars richer after winning the top prize on an Instant Scratch-Its card.

A shocked Mount Gambier woman was left hyperventilating after the first line of her Instant Scratch-Its ticket revealed a $500,000 top prize win last week.

The lucky winner had almost not purchased the scratch card but changed her mind at the last minute.

“I started having a panic attack!” the winning woman said.

“Immediately, I went, ‘no way, I must be looking at this wrong!’.

“My poor daughter was sleeping but I just had to wake her up.

“Then I called my husband and told him to get home immediately.

“He thought something was wrong.”

The lucky prize winner is now looking to spend her winnings on a new car, home renovations, mortgage payments and more.

The South Australian resident is now planning to see a financial adviser so that she can spend her new-found fortune wisely.

“We’re going to see a financial adviser as we have so much,” she said.

“A new car, house renovations, pay off some of the mortgage, the list goes on.

“We’re going to celebrate on the weekend too.”

The winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased from Killara Food Centre in Mount Gambier, located along the Jubilee Highway West.

Killara Food Centre team member Nyesha Hart said the team were “over the moon” for the winning customer.

“The team and I are super excited that we sold a winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket to a local customer,” she said.

“Congratulations to the fortunate person and we wish them all the best with their prize.”

The win follows a string of local wins this year, with the latest being a Mount Barker women who won $200,000 in late August.
