SafeWork SA has filed charges against Ingham’s Enterprises after a workplace death that cost the life of a long-term employee and father-of-three at Burton.
Ingham’s has been accused of failing in its duty of care when Robert Langella, 53, was hit by a reversing truck and trailer in the receiving yard of the company’s factory on May 17 last year.
Mr Langella, of Munno Para West, died at the scene.
“It is alleged that Ingham’s failed in their duty of care and did not maintain, so far as reasonably practicable, a safe work environment,” a SafeWork SA statement said.
“It failed to adequately manage the risks associated with interactions between pedestrians and mobile plant.”
A hearing will be held in the South Australian Employment Tribunal at a later date.
Mr Langella was remembered by family at the time of his death as being at the peak of his life.
The Ingham’s employee of 14 years had only walked his daughter Isabella down the aisle three weeks before he died.
He left behind two daughters and a son, as well as his wife, Brenda, and young grandchild Amelia.
“He just knew how to make all of us laugh … he just brightened the room,” his daughter, Kayla, said at the time.
“It could be the most silliest thing ever and he would make it funny,” she said.
