Beauty salon Killer Russians receiving death threats for name amid conflict in Ukraine

The owner of a Fulham Gardens beauty salon which employs Ukrainian workers has received vile death threats over an unfortunately timed business name.

Pro-Ukraine protest in Adelaide

A Fulham Gardens beauty salon with an incredibly unfortunate name says it has nothing to do with the atrocities in Ukraine – and asked its clients for suggestions to rebrand.

The owner of Killer Russians on Tapleys Hill Rd, Bee, who wished not to provide her surname, said her business social media pages had been the subject of vile death threats.

Bee said to add to an already unfortunate coincidence, she employs two Ukrainian workers.

“In our DMs as well we’ve received things and we’ve had calls from private numbers,” Bee said.

“Things like ‘are you siding with Russia’, ‘are you making fun of the situation’, ‘are you profiting from the situation’.”

The business, which had “taken a massive hit”, undertook a proactive response to immediate rebranding.

Killer Russians, established in late 2018, posted a call-out to its Instagram page, asking clients and followers to suggest a new brand name.

Whoever suggests the business’ new name will win a free body sculpting session.

“Rebranding’s going to cost about $10,000, it’s just really unfortunate … new signage, new uniforms as I have 13 staff,” Bee said.

“But we’re happy to do it, it’s the right thing to do.”

The business name originally was a nod to a Russian style of eyelash extensions, and ‘killer’ meaning ‘good’, forming the name Killer Russians.

“Obviously we don’t have anything to do with what happened in Russia, we’re a small beauty salon in Adelaide,” Bee said.

“I have two Ukrainians who work for me, and I feel so much for them, which is why I’ve acted so fast … we’re trying to do the right thing.”

Cosmetic and registered nurse, Ukrainian employee Svitlana Della Russo, said she felt for her boss.

Ms Della Russo, from Kyiv, said her father and cousins remain in the city recently bombed by Russia.

“I believe it’s not justified, and people who are doing this don’t know the history of the business,” Ms Della Russo said.

“It’s not fair, it has nothing to do with what’s happening in Ukraine.”

Killer Russians’ Instagram post received more than 300 comments within the first 24 hours, and many messages of support from followers.

Names such as Killer Beauty, Killer Cosmetics, If Looks Could Kill, Black Widow Aesthetics and Sculpt & Glow Co are among suggestions.
