A man in his 60s is in critical condition after sustaining injuries from an accident involving a tractor on Tuesday night.
Emergency services were notified of an incident on Stott Hwy, Swan Reach, about 7.25pm.
The man has been flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital after reportedly receiving injuries to the head and chest areas. Police described the man’s injuries as “life-threatening”.
Police said the accident took place on a property at a vineyard.
Safework SA and Murray Mallee detectives are investigating the incident.
Swan Reach is located 170km north-east from Adelaide with the River Murray running through part of the town.
Leanne Griffiths, the library manager at Swan Reach School Community Library, was at home last night in nearby town Nildottie.
“On the left of the highway there is an orchard, a vineyard and Costas, the almond farm - there’s three different properties and they’re all owned by different people,” Ms Griffiths said.
“The vineyard is only a couple of kilometres away from us.
“One of our teachers heard the helicopter land last night.”
The librarian said the town had only 300-350 people and because it was a two-hour drive from Adelaide, it was not uncommon to hear helicopters or planes fly over.
“We’re on the edge of nowhere,” she said.
