Customers of an Adelaide builder who left them with half-finished homes when its licence was suspended are “relieved” after the construction company was placed into administration.

7 Star Constructions customers were on Thursday informed the company had been placed into administration after weeks of mounting pressure.

In an email sent on Thursday, Consumer and Business Services senior regulatory officer Graham Close informed 7 Star Constructions customers of the decision.

“Consumer and Business Services has recently been in contact with you about issues relating to your builder,” the email said.

“I can now advise that 7 Star Constructions Pty Ltd is in administration today.

“This means that claims can be made under your policies of building indemnity insurance. “This provides cover of up to $150,000 per property for the additional costs of rectifying defects and completing construction of your homes.”

Customer Christine Jefferey, who has been waiting for more than two years for her home on Reservoir Rd at Modbury to be completed, said the news created “mixed emotions”.

“I’m feeling relieved,” Ms Jefferey said.

“The whole experience has been a nightmare really.

“Everyone’s been in limbo and not knowing where we stand, there was no communication with the builder about difficulties in completing (the homes) or anything like that.

“It’s been us pressuring him the whole time to get answers.”

The development came after complaints from Ms Jefferey and fellow customers to Consumer and Business Services led to 7 Star Constructions owner Qamil Veseli having his license suspended.

“I’m pretty disheartened,” she said. “We’ve actually pushed to have this done.

“They took his license away and now he’s gone under.”

Ms Jefferey said she would lodge an insurance claim to have her home completed, but knew of at least six 7 Star Constructions customers who were not insured.

“What does that mean for everyone else?” Ms Jefferey said.

But, Ms Jefferey said she was worried the insurance process may be “dragged out”

“It’s been emotionally draining and tonight’s been a relief.”

Fellow 7 Star Constructions customer Zara Sanders said she was also feeling “relieved”.

“We can now get the ball rolling on the next steps which is great,” Ms Sanders said.

“(It) could drag out a while but at least we can start moving forward.”

Other customers previously told The Advertiser of their outrage over the delayed construction of their homes.

One customer, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Advertiser, she had purchased a house and land package at Gillman – but no work had been done on the property in two years, despite being given a completion date of October last year.

“It’s been two years of hell and we have nothing to show for it,” she said.

“It came to the finish date in October 2022 and they had done nothing.

“All they had done was cleared the land and brought more infill to put down.

“But they left the infill for so long that weeds started growing on it.”

Mr Veseli was contacted for comment.
