A Victorian man is set to face court after an allegedly drunken joyride through the city on Australia Day.

About 8.15pm, police spotted a white Toyota sedan allegedly speeding along Main North Rd at Elizabeth East.

PolAir were quickly alerted and took over observation of the car from the air.

The Toyota was tracked as it continued speeding south on Main North Rd towards the city.

Police allege that the car was seen to drive through red lights and on the incorrect side of the road several times.

The car hit a kerb on Prospect Rd causing damage to its front tyre but continued travelling south into North Adelaide and through the CBD along King William Rd.

PolAir tracked it as it headed east on Greenhill Road until it eventually came to a stop in Laurel Ave, at Tusmore.

The driver was arrested without incident about 8.45pm.

A 52-year-old man from Victoria was charged with a number of offences including drink driving, dangerous driving to escape police and extreme speed.

He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

It follows a northern suburbs motorcyclist who was caught allegedly riding at more than 150km/h – more than 90km/h over the limit – on a popular Adelaide road earlier in the day.

The 41-year-old motorcycle rider was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning after PolAir spotted a blue Yamaha motorcycle heading north on Main North Rd.

The rider stopped at a Salisbury East address after allegedly continuing to speed on other roads, including the Grove Way and Bridge Rd.

Police ground crews were directed to the address where they arrested the rider. It was soon discovered the bike also had a fake number plate.

The Salisbury East man was refused bail and has been charged with driving at extreme speed, breach of bail, unassigned number plates, and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

He is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates court on Friday.

This comes as a motorcyclist, of no fixed address, was arrested earlier this month after a joy ride at speeds over 100km/h.

The five-hour ride, on January 8, saw the motorcyclist drive through several red lights and reach speeds in excess of 100km/h over the limit.

A few days earlier, a 26-year-old motorcyclist was arrested for riding 130km over the speed limit on Port Wakefield Rd at Bolivar.
