More than half of all Queenslanders feel they are “worse off” than they were a year ago – but who is to blame?
People across the state were making significant cutbacks on basic needs to avoid falling off a cost-of-living cliff – slashing their spend on food, groceries, and insurance in a bid to curb the sting of rising prices.
An exclusive new poll showed that despite the Palaszczuk Government centring its re-election hopes on its ability to tackle cost of living more Queenslanders are feeling the pinch.
More than two-thirds of the 1013 Queenslanders polled said they had reduced how often they eat out or get takeaway to save cash, while 53 per cent said they had been forced to cut back on basic food and groceries.
Revelations of the cost of living fears across the state sparked debate among readers, with some blaming the government.

However others insisted there are bigger factors at play.
“Everyone is complaining about the cost of living, new car sales are at an all time high, people complain about petrol being over $2 a litre but are happy to spend $50-60 a week on takeaway coffees,” Blackstar wrote.

WHAT YOU SAID
It’s government’s fault!

What do u expect from the Anna and her mob? Most of them never held a real job.
Hopeless.

Premier, you can not be blind to the fact that there is discontent through out the State.
You may swap Ministers between Portfolios but to be honest, that does not work any more.
You do not have a ‘covid emergency’ that you can hide behind.
How about you do something different and actually trust the voters to have a say in your dilemma.
Call an election now!!

You can’t overcome incompetence by just talking the talk through media channels. The media darling has lost her lustre and not before time.

politicians failing to realise that high living costs are hurting families hardest especially in regions What little protection offered is abysmal in effect

From my perception and experience, recent Queensland government is becoming increasingly arrogant and undemocratic.
Not a single of my requests and complaints have been addressed properly and satisfactory.
I believe we need to rid of this government.
Stan
The most astounding stat to some out of all of these polls is that 54% of people think that Queensland is heading in the right direction when every action by this Government seems to be driving it backwards. I guess we now know how incompetent Governments get elected.

The poll results should not be seen as a shock. Those that voted Anna and her incompetent government in again two years ago should have known to expected more of the same.
There are other factors

Everyone is complaining about the cost of living, new car sales are at an all time high, people complain about petrol being over $2 a litre but are happy to spend $50-60 a week on takeaway coffees, add it up, 2 cups a day at $5-6 each, they don’t complain about the price, which by the way comes in at about $15 a litre, when I see a massive closure of coffee shops and new car sales yards then I’ll believe things are really bad.

Can’t reconcile this percentage of people close to breaking point when the CM has also reported an anticipated $.5 billion spend on Halloween.

For regional Queenslanders, failings of the public health and education system represents significant additional costs. People can’t get public elective surgery and are taking out loans to pay to for cataract and prostate surgery routinely were I live. Seems even pretty simple elective surgery is all in Brisbane, with massive out of pocket costs for travel and accommodation.
Robert
Inflation has stabilised, but fuel prices will continue to keep grocery prices high. Electricity will be the next killer for budgets.

The QLD government must be really bad. Not only have they obviously caused all these problems in QLD, but throughout the rest of Australia and seemingly all countries in the developed world – regardless of these other government’s politics, policies and reactions to events in recent years.
Surely the problems we have in the sunshine state couldn’t mostly be the result of world economic conditions.
