Hollywood couple Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have enjoyed a dose of Aussie wildlife while staying in Queensland.

The pair were taken on a behind the scenes tour of Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas on Sunday, having booked and paid for the experience anonymously in a welcome surprise to the local wildlife park.

During the two-hour tour, which is $175 per adult, they had one-on-one animal encounters with koalas, crocodiles and snakes, visited the Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre (TARC), met an eastern grey kangaroo joey being hand raised, and fed kangaroos, cassowaries, cockatoos, barramundi and swallows.

They were guided by Rabecca Lynch, wildlife manager for CaPTA (Cairns and Port Trips and Attractions), who snapped a photo of the pair for the park’s social media accounts.

“(They) were all very excited about meeting a koala and learning about their plight in Australia and were very interested in the importance of captive breeding programs for the species,” Ms Lynch said.

“The whole party were delighted with the opportunity to meet and see such a vast range of Australian native wildlife and Orlando was particularly taken with our motto, ‘Through Observation comes Appreciation. Through Appreciation comes Conservation’.”

The couple arrived in Far North Queensland in June, alongside their daughter Daisy Dove and Bloom’s son Flynn, and are staying in the region for a number of months as Bloom films a role in movie Wizards! alongside Pete Davidson.

The Hollywood visitors have caused a stir in Port Douglas, with Perry spotted dining out, attending a circus – a VIP experience she also booked herself – and browsing local stores, recently picking up some swimwear from a local label.

Meanwhile Bloom is training at a specialty gym in the area for the duration of filming.

“We’re really pleased that Katy and Orlando chose to take some time out with their family to visit our wildlife park, arranging it anonymously with no expectation of receiving special treatment other than the VIP tour that they paid full price for,” said Ben Woodward, director of sales and marketing for The CaPTA Group, which owns Wildlife Habitat.

“It’s funny the number of people who’ve been sceptical that it’s them in the photo we’ve posted on social media – possibly due to some celebrity “false alarms” we’ve recently had up in our region, but we can assure everyone that it was definitely them! I think it’s a testament to the relaxing nature of what the Cairns and The Great Barrier Reef region has to offer.”
