A MAN was taken to hospital after a police dog attacked him when he refused to co-operate with police after a theft in Alice Springs overnight.
NT Police Southern Watch Commander Steve Pfitzner said the 18-year-old man was seen by a police unit snatching the bag,” he said.

“About three o’clock, a K9 unit member saw a male snatching a bag from a male victim,” he said.
“He then gave chase to the offender who was tracked to the top of a hill opposite the to the top of a hill, opposite the Chifley Hotel on Stott Terrace.
“The offender basically refused to surrender, and the 2P dog Wedge was deployed, resulting in some minor injuries to the offender.”
Acting Snr Sgt Pftizner said investigations continued, with the victim and stolen bag yet to be found.
“The victim’s bag was not located and the victim hasn’t been located so inquiries are continuing in relation to this matter,” he said.

“The offender has subsequently been released from custody whilst those inquiries continue.”
The man has been taken into the hospital for treatment of those minor injuries.
