Vanessa Amorosi’s bitter fight with mum hits new low

The ugly fight between the Aussie singer and her estranged mother has taken another turn, amid claims Vanessa Amorosi wants to “have her cake and eat it too.”

Inside the Vanessa Amorosi family feud

Vanessa Amorosi has demanded a payout to her estranged mother be reduced by $250,000 to cover the singer’s legal bills.

Documents reveal that Ms Amorosi and her mother Joyleen Robinson are still locked in a bitter feud over a $2.5 million property in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs.

Ms Amorosi’s costs application, which was released by the court late on Tuesday, had sought to reduce an $870,000 court ordered payout.

“The offer is perhaps most fairly assessed as being equivalent to an offer to pay Mrs Robinson $526,366,” Ms Amorosi’s lawyers claimed.

The singer had argued that the payout should be as low as $350,000, but later reviewed her legal bills which were found to be higher.

The Absolutely Everybody singer, now based in Los Angeles, has been in a decade-long dispute with her mother over money.

She successfully sued Mrs Robinson, with a court finding in September that her mother’s home in Melbourne had been paid for from the singer’s music earnings.

The Victorian Supreme Court had given Mrs Robinson 60 days to move out of the home and ordered that it be sold.

However, in a twist, the court also ordered Ms Amorosi pay her mother $870,000 in restitution.

Ms Amorosi claimed in her costs application that her mother had previously rejected a more “generous” offer to settle the matter in 2022.

That offer allowed Mrs Robinson to keep half of the Narre Warren home and pay none of Ms Amorosi’s legal bills.

Mrs Robinson also filed a costs applications order, arguing that the 2022 offer would have cost her $884,000 and required her partner to pay $710,000 into an account, known as the Llama Trust.

She argued that Ms Amorosi’s claims of “breaches of trust”, which she later dropped, had added unnecessary legal costs.

Mrs Robinson said that her daughter should have accepted that her successful claim of ownership over the property would have included a payout to her mother.

“Ms Amorosi ought to have conceded this point as being the consequence of her claim succeeding. Rather, she wanted to have her cake and eat it too,” Mrs Robinson’s costs application claimed.

Mrs Robinson has until November 9 to move out of the property, while the court ordered that Ms Amorosi does not have to pay the disputed amount until March.

Mrs Robinson has previously told the Herald Sun that she would not move out until she was paid.

“It was my dream home in the beginning but now it’s a bit of a nightmare,” she said.

The eight-hectare property at Boundary Road, Narre Warren, has been Mrs Robinson’s home for almost 20 years.

The property still has a mortgage to Westpac, which would need to be paid out, leaving Ms Amorosi with little profit from the sale.
