THREE footballers facing charges over an alleged CBD assault will not be stood down from their footy clubs while the incident is before the courts.

The man who was injured in the alleged assault has since regained consciousness and was discharged from Royal Darwin Hospital on December 27.

All three players are in their first season in the NTFL after relocating from Victoria.

Palmerston Women’s Premier League Player Tayarrah Morris, 25, has played nine games while Division 1 player Karl Gruber, 19, has played eight games for the club.

In a statement, Palmerston Magpies vice president Shane Rust said the club was disappointed in the incident.

“PMFC does not condone aggressive or violent behaviour of any kind, and in no way is this incident a reflection of the culture of the club,” he said.

“We uphold a strict code of conduct which we take very seriously.”

Mr Rust said the club hoped to build a safe, family- friendly, community sports club.

“Palmerston prides itself on being a family-orientated club, and we work extremely hard to build and maintain a safe environment for all of our valued members, supporters and patrons,” he said.

“As this matter is before the court, we will be making no further comment.”

The third accused, Nightcliff player Kian Wise, 20, has played 12 games for the club, including one for their division one side.

He also sits third on the Division 2 competition’s goalkicking tally. In a statement, Nightcliff Football Club president Mark Dodge said no action would be taken at this stage.
