Australia is giving its British comrades some unusual advice in the lead-up to a possible no-deal Brexit this month.

Britain might be splitting with the EU, but Australia wants those Poms to turn to us for an escape.

INSTEAD of stockpiling canned goods, Poms freaking out over the looming Brexit no-deal are being urged to pack a bag for Australia.

A new tourism campaign aimed to luring British travellers, which will strongly feature Queensland attractions, will be launched tonight by federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham.

There are already 235,000 UK tourists coming to Queensland each year, injecting over $422 million into the economy.

But the new campaign seeks to capitalise on the chaos and uncertainty of future travel arrangements between Britain and Europe.

Some international trade law experts have already predicted Australia’s agricultural sector could even benefit from a no-deal Brexit scenario, making this another way the nation could benefit from the chaos of the mother country.

The campaign will focus on social media, advertising, television, the UnDiscover Australia project will promote lesser-known attractions for the British, ahead of stereotypical destinations.

These will include visiting the Daintree in Cairns and the Cape York Peninsula, kayaking the Brisbane River and four-wheel driving on Fraser Island.

The campaign, targeted to coincide with the looming Brexit, offers the Poms an Aussie getaway.

Senator Birmingham said while UK tourism was worth $3.5 billion to the Australian economy, many British tourists stuck to the beaches or the Outback.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a greater number of UK tourists explore more of Queensland, from the tranquillity of popular spots such as North Stradbroke, to four-wheel driving on Fraser Island to exploring the Cape York Peninsula,” he said.

“This campaign is about showing prospective UK travellers that Australia has even more to offer than the Reef, the Rock and the Bridge.

“The more UK tourists we can lure to Queensland the more cash they will splash in local businesses which helps to boost the economy and create more local jobs.”

It is the second instalment of the UnDiscover campaign, which began with a $10 million program targeting South-East Asia nations including Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
