A Queenslander fed-up with a lack of services for the homeless and vulnerable has challenged Opposition Leader David Crisafulli to stick to his word and ensure more is done within a year.

Mr Crisafulli was touring the Everyday Food Outlet, a supermarket offering affordable groceries in Nambour, when he was accosted by the shopper.

The man, who declined to be named, said he was from Bundaberg and passing through Nambour, and in the past three days had noticed a stark lack of services for the vulnerable and homeless.

“I hate to see politicians coming to a place and acting like they care, they pop in, good photo-op but you’re not really doing anything to change things are you?” he said.

The man also took umbrage at an ongoing government program of subsiding hotel room stays for the homeless, saying the policy had caused accommodation prices to skyrocket.

“I can’t actually pay for my accommodation, because you’ve priced me out,” he said.

Mr Crisafulli, touring the facility with LNP Nicklin candidate Marty Hunt, said the party was trying to make a change.

The LNP committed $1 million toward renovations to the Nambour premises if elected.

Mr Hunt said the situation was “dire” and blamed the last decade of Labor.

But the man said both sides were no better than each other.

“I don’t think it’s Labor, man, it was no good when the Liberals were in either,” he said.

“You can blame each other, that’s cool.”

Mr Crisafulli said the LNP would “like to do something about it”.

The man said he would hold the LNP to its word.

“I will hold you to that, I hope you get in so in a year’s time I can ring you and say, have things changed yet?” he said.

“And they won’t have, because everyone knows they’re empty promises you make before elections. Happens every time.”
