IT’S just copped a battering from Mother Nature, but far north Queensland has never looked so good.

Tropical North Queensland will today launch a stunning new tourism campaign, fronted by top Australian model Samantha Harris, to woo visitors to the region.

Harris took part in photo shoots at some of north Queensland’s most breathtaking locations for the new campaign, which encourages visitors to “get grounded”.

TV and print advertising will roll out throughout the year, showcasing the spectacular natural beauty of a region drenched by recent flooding rains.

It comes just days after Destination Gold Coast launched a new $2.5 million campaign celebrating the Glitter Strip’s traditional tourism heroes of beaches and theme parks.

The TNQ campaign showcases remote Vlassof Cay, fun Fitzroy and Dunk islands, the Atherton Tablelands and Mossman Gorge.

In tourism terms, TNQ is a separate region to Townsville, which copped the worst of the recent flooding, but some parts of the tropics were also affected.

However while traditionally dry Townsville struggled to cope with the floods, regions further north have rebounded almost overnight.

Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief executive officer Pip Close said the campaign would use the region’s greatest assets to entice high-yielding travellers from southern states.

“Tropical North Queensland is all about taking time out with incredible experiences set against nature,” she said.

“The new domestic campaign aims to get bums on airplane seats by showing Tropical North Queensland as an ideal short-break holiday.

“From a scenic helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef landing on a private sand cay to chasing breathtaking waterfalls on the Atherton Tableland, our diverse region has a lot to offer to travellers seeking a connection with nature.”

Harris said the new campaign slogan “feel grounded” summed up her feelings to the region perfectly.

“I totally connected with the ‘feel grounded’ concept — it’s exactly what you feel from the minute you touch down in Tropical North Queensland — that feeling of letting all your stress and worry go,” she said.
