VICTORIA is the state most supportive of same-sex marriage, the postal survey results show.
Almost 65 per cent of Victorians voted yes, while New South Wales recorded the lowest support with a yes vote of 57.8 per cent.
Among all states and territories, the ACT had the strongest yes vote of 74 per cent.
Of the 17 out of 150 federal electorates that recorded a no vote, 12 of them were from NSW, three from Queensland and two from Victoria. All other states’ electorates had a clean sweep of yes votes.
Former Prime Minister Paul Keating’s electorate of Blaxland, in Sydney, had the highest proportion of no votes at 73.9 per cent.
The electorate of Sydney, home of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, had the highest proportion of yes votes at 83.7 per cent.
