A small slice of land in one of Sydney’s most affluent suburbs is selling for under $100,000 in a “one-off opportunity” expected to drum up plenty of interest. But there’s a twist.
Touted as a “rare and intriguing offering”, the triangular-shaped block of land at 9 Anderson Street in Neutral Bay, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, will go to auction next month with an asking price of about $60,000.
While the figure is a fraction of the $3 million median house price in the harbourside suburb, the uniquely shaped block has its drawbacks, extending just 31 sqm – a space larger than a parking space or roughly the size of a tiny home.
The land also backs onto a tennis court and features an electrical transformer box out the front.

“This parcel of land presents one of the most unique opportunities to hit the Lower North Shore in recent memory,” the listing by the BresicWhitney real estate agency reads.
“Formerly an easement/access site, it now offers untapped potential – whether as an acquisition for immediate neighbours or something more ambitious.”
Many online offered some creative suggestions for the triangular-shaped space, with one person quipping it requires “a positive buyer who can think outside the box”.
“With some creative thinking, this tiny block could be turned into something amazing!” one person wrote on social media.
“Double story shipping container home on it then sell it for (two million),” said another.
“Concrete it and rent the car spots out for $50 a day,” another suggested.
“That’s bigger than most British houses so personally, I wouldn’t complain,” said another.
Two other blocks in the surrounding area have also been listed for sale, 37 Vista Street, Mosman – which extends 101 square metres and has a price guide of $475,000 – and 50 sqm block of land on the corner of Bardwell Road and Lindsay Lane, Mosman – which has a price guide of $300,000.
“These sites represent what may well be the most unique offerings in some time on the Lower North Shore,” Scott Thornton, director and sales consultant of Thornton Estate Agents, said in a statement to Domain.
“We’re expecting good buyer interest and that it to mainly be shown from neighbours, locals and individuals seeking a unique property investment or value-add, that likely won’t be available again for some time.”
All three blocks will go to auction on April 30.
