A teenager accused of stabbing a friend eight times to the legs and arms in a Gold Coast parkland may have been intoxicated, a court has been told.

But toxicology results will need to be analysed by an expert.

Jalen Ecko Taylor, 18, allegedly stabbed another 18-year-old after they got into an altercation on Rifle Bird St, Coomera about 11.30pm on Sunday, May 29.

Taylor allegedly chased the teen into parkland off Picnic Creek Rd and stabbed him multiple times to the legs and arms.

Taylor also attempted to stab the other teen in the face, Southport Magistrates Court was told on Tuesday.

Taylor appeared in court via video link from prison on Tuesday, charged with attempt to murder, to make a bail application.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Paige Barrow said police were waiting for a forensic medical officer to complete a statement analysing the toxicology results.

That statement would not be completed until November 1, the court was told.

Taylor’s lawyer, Mollie Roper, of Cooper Roper Legal, said from her look at the toxicology results “the level of drugs in the system were quite low”.

She said Taylor was also suffering from mental health issues at the time but there was not a proper diagnosis.

Ms Roper withdrew Taylor’s application for bail in order to wait for the report on toxicology from a forensic medical officer.

Taylor is expected to make a bail application after the report has been provided.

Magistrate Dzenita Balic said: “It should be made clear to police that it’s a young person in custody and these things need to be prioritised.”

She adjourned the matter to November 2.

Taylor’s parents were in the back of the courtroom during proceedings. Both remained quiet and spoke to Taylor’s lawyer following the adjournment.
