Coles targeted by tobacco thieves twice this week
December 9: Police are investigating attempted break-and-enters at a Coles supermarket and a wheel and tyre shop on the Gold Coast overnight.
It’s believed three offenders “smashed through the front doors” of the Coles on the corner of Reserve Rd at Upper Coomera about 2.30am on Thursday, a police spokeswoman said.
It appeared the offenders were trying to steal cigarettes, but they were unsuccessful and nothing was taken.
It’s the second time the Coles has been targeted by thieves this week.
Early Monday morning, three men broke into the Coles by smashing their way through glass doors and stealing a haul of tobacco products.
Tobacco products have been commonly targeted in break-ins on the Coast in recent times.
Later in the morning, about 4.40am, a black Range Ranger crashed into the wheel and tyre business on Dalton St at Upper Coomera and caught fire.
“It appears the Range Rover with no plates was reversed into the roller door,” the spokeswoman said.
“Nothing stolen and the vehicle was driven off from the scene.”
Investigations into the break-ins were ongoing later on Thursday morning.
