Gold Coast crash: Cyclist injured after collision with car at Surfers Paradise

A car has collided with a cyclist in Surfers Paradise - right in front of a Gold Coast University Hospital doctor.

A CAR collided with a cyclist in Surfers Paradise on Thursday morning - right in front of a Gold Coast University Hospital doctor walking her dog.

In dramatic scenes just after 9am, the young female driver of a Suzuki sat on the footpath with her head in her hands crying as paramedics treated the cyclist in the middle of the road.

Doctor Gaby Barron, who luckily happened to be on the scene, said she initially attended to the cyclist who had rolled across the bonnet of a white Suzuki outside the Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club.

The car and cyclist - going in opposite directions towards each other -  had both turned from Garfield Terrace into Thornton Street at the same time, according to witnesses and police.

Dr Barron told the Bulletin: “I was right here and it happened. I was walking the dog.

“I went to make sure he was conscious, with no life threatening injuries, and that someone had called an ambulance. They were pretty quick.”

A person is treated by paramedics after a Suzuki car collided with a cyclist  at the corner of Garfield Terrace and Thornton St, beside the Northcliffe Surf Lifesaving Club, Surfers Paradise.

Accident witness Marisol Mejias, a Surfers Paradise housekeeper on her way to work,  said the cyclist “rolled over the bonnet very quickly”.

“I was on my way to work and just heard the screech. The driver said she didn’t see him,” Ms Mejias claimed.

A police officer at the scene said the cyclist appeared to be OK and was  conscious but would be taken to hospital for a check.

The driver had said she did not see the cyclist when turning, the officer told the Bulletin.
