Crash victim Tallen ‘Trumby’ Fox remembered

A well-known Mareeba dad has been remembered for his energy after he was killed in a double fatality on the Mulligan Highway which also claimed the life of a 46-year-old woman with a “heart of gold”.

A well-known Mareeba dad has been remembered for his energy and big heart after he was killed in a double fatality on the Mulligan Highway.

Tallen ‘Trumby’ Fox, 25, has been identified as one of the people killed in the crash on the at Lakeland.

It’s understood a blue Holden station left the road as it navigated a bend at Boggy Creek Bridge and rolled several times on Wednesday.

A third person travelling in the car was rushed to Cairns Hospital with critical injuries and is now in a stable condition.

Josh Patterson from the Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation said the death had a profound impact as everyone knew him, and one ranger is the cousin of the late Mr Fox.

“It was devastating for the office and it has impacted the whole team,” he said.

From Cooktown and living in Mareeba at the time of the crash, the keen fisherman has been remembered for his enthusiasm and smile.

“Rest in paradise brother, I will miss your energy and love but it will not be forgotten, big love,” one mate wrote in tribute on social media.

Another grieving family member posted her tribute following the crash.

“See you in the dreamtime my lil brother,” she said.

The driver of the vehicle, understood to be Margaret Carbine, aged, 46, also died at the scene.

“She was a happy go lucky always smiley and laughing, my granddaughter had a heart of gold, she loved her family always acknowledge her blood line,” May May Waterton posted in tribute.

“Margaret Carbine my memories of you will always be in my heart ️never forgets you.”

Three other passengers — a 28-year-old man, 21-year-old woman, and 19-year-old woman — were transported to the Cooktown Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, dashcam or CCTV footage that road users or businesses may have had of a blue 2004 Holden Commodore Station Wagon in the Mulligan Highway, Lakeland, Palmer River, Mt Carbine area on the afternoon of November 1.

Before the latest fatalities on Wednesday, 13 people had died on Far North roads this year, a significant reduction on the 28 killed at the same time last year.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner into the cause of the crash and resulting deaths.
