New plans have been released for a five-storey building in Adelaide’s western suburbs that will contain 42 more apartments at an existing public housing block set to be occupied by Housing Trust tenants.
The complex, at Lot 1002, Glenburnie St, in Seaton will house two studios, 12 single-room apartments and 28 two-bedroom apartments.
It comes after designs were released last month for Stage One of the Seaton Renewal Project – a 22 two-bedroom apartment building on the same block of land as part of a major $12.6m “once-in-a-generation” western suburbs housing boost.
The development is part of a state budget commitment to build 1450 new homes on a 38.5 hectare segment of Seaton’s northwest and redevelop almost 400 Housing Trust homes in the area.
In July, housing minister Nick Champion said the developments would “provide important housing security for Housing Trust tenants”.
“As a government, we are firmly focused on increasing the supply of housing and
this project will increase the urban density in a balanced and measured approach,” Mr Champion said.
“It’s part of the Labor government’s overall strategy to revitalise this area of Seaton
and improve public housing in our state”.
The carpark in the latest proposal will feature 40 spaces, as well as 44 bicycle parking spaces.
The development would be undertaken by Renewal SA on behalf of the SA Housing Trust and will provide both affordable rental and sale accommodation that will meet the affordable housing criteria.
As the proposed development is five storeys, public notification is required with the consultation period closing on September 11.
