Pirate Life Brewing has left its original home in Hindmarsh.

The SA craft brewer has vacated its brew house on South Rd and moved all its operations to its brewery and hospitality venue in Port Adelaide.

Pirate Life co-founder Michael Cameron said when the brewery was launched in Hindmarsh in 2014, they had no idea it would so quickly outgrow that space.

“When we first saw this building in Port Adelaide, we always had in mind to build the new brewery down there,” Mr Cameron said.

Pirate Life was started by Mr Cameron, his son Jack and their friend, Jared ‘Red’ Proudfoot, when they transformed a 1000sq m site in Hindmarsh, formerly used to house spare airconditioning parts, into a functioning brewery.

In March last year, they opened a 300-seat taphouse and a brewery in Baker St, Port Adelaide.

The Hindmarsh brewery, which has a three million litre capacity, has been relocated to the Port.

Pirate Life is also developing Australia’s first brewery inside a casino, as part of SkyCity Adelaide’s $7 million redevelopment of its entertainment precinct.

It was announced last week the 500 litre microbrewery would be built in a new area called The District, and is set to open in October.

Mr Cameron said the business’s Hindmarsh staff had, in recent times, expressed a desire to be based at the Port Adelaide brewery.

“As the business has grown we have always been very strong on our culture and our people,” he said.

“So it’s good to have them all under the one roof.”

Mr Cameron said he chose to focus on the positives of leaving Hindmarsh.

“One of our team members was down there (at Hindmarsh) and they said they were feeling a a bit sad to see the place looking empty,” Mr Cameron said.

“I look at more the positives of what we have built in Port Adelaide.

“In business, you have to always be looking towards the future.

“Port Adelaide is now Pirate Life’s home.”

He said Pirate Life had been leasing the Hindmarsh site, and six businesses had already expressed an interest in it.
