SA craft brewer Pirate Life will develop Australia’s first brewery inside a casino as part of SkyCity Adelaide’s $7 million redevelopment of its entertainment precinct.
The casino on Thursday said Pirate Life would help develop the 500L microbrewery at a new area called The District, which was set to open in October.
The District, which will create about 25 new jobs and seat about 450 people, is a “key pillar” of the North Tce casino’s wider $330 million redevelopment.
Pirate Life co-founder Michael Cameron said the venture was an exciting new project for the company, and a chance to expose its product to a wider audience.
His team aimed to create a brewery that “resonated” with South Australians.
“It is unbelievable for Pirate Life to have this opportunity … and being able to partner with Adelaide’s most pre-eminent establishment is something we are really, really proud of,” Mr Cameron said.
“We look forward to sharing the Pirate Life experience with more South Australians, as well as tourists visiting the state.
“It is going to help us continue to grow as a South Australian brand.”
The $7 million price tag also includes a new mezzanine level in the current outdoor bar, as well as a revamp of the sports bar and cafe.
Pirate Life will have three fermentation vessels and some brews may be exclusive to the casino.
SkyCity Adelaide general manager David Christian looked forward to having a “prominent South Australia brewer” join the casino.
“The District at SkyCity, featuring the dynamic Pirate Life team, is the final piece of the puzzle at SkyCity Adelaide, creating a vibrant live entertainment space on level one in the current heritage building,” Mr Christian said.
A $3.6 billion integrated casino-resort in Brisbane, including a microbrewery, is due to open in 2022.
Redevelopment of the Adelaide Casino is expected to be completed this year.
