American burger chain Carl’s Jr. is opening an outlet in the western suburbs.
The restaurant, on Turner Drive at West Lakes, is the third Carl’s Jr. in SA and the second in the metropolitan area.
It will open its doors on Tuesday, at 9am.
Carl’s Jr. area manager Mohit Taneja said West Lakes was chosen because it’s a “great spot” close to the Westfield West Lakes Shopping Centre, which attracted lots of passing traffic.
He said the redevelopment of the former home of Footy Park into a residential, retail and aged care precinct was also a drawcard.
Mr Taneja said about 100 people had been employed at the restaurant.
Carl’s Jr. was started in California in 1941, when Carl and Margaret Karcher purchased a hot dog cart for $326.
The business grew quickly and in 1945, Mr Karcher opened Carl’s Drive-in Barbecue in Anaheim, California.
The first Carl’s Jr. restaurant opened in 1956.
Carl’s Jr. also has outlets at Mount Barker and Kilburn.
The chain’s first Australian store was opened in Bateau Bay, New South Wales, in 2016.
