Tiser Explains: How a criminal trial works

A notorious former bikie who was allegedly one of about 15 people thought to have carried out a violent attack on a man they believed assaulted a young woman, has pleaded not guilty.

Former Finks and Comanchero bikie Mark Andrew Sandery appeared in the Adelaide Magistrate Court on Monday, originally making an application there was no case to answer for in relation to the events of November 8, 2022.

However that application was withdrawn and Mr Sandery formally entered not guilty pleas to three counts including attempted serious criminal trespass and two counts of aggravated causing harm with intent.

Police allege Mr Sandery hit the man in the head with a hammer before then stomping on the head of a completely innocent woman.

At a prior bail application, the court heard Mr Sandery became incensed after seeing footage of the man hitting the young woman – his son’s girlfriend – before allegedly heading to his house with a hammer and hitting him through the front fly screen.

A police prosecutor told Magistrate Paul Foley, half an hour later Mr Sandery believed a woman had pulled his son by the hair, so he allegedly pushed her over and stomped on her head.

After realising she was not the one who pulled her hair, the court heard, Mr Sandery apologised to her.

Mr Sandery denies all allegations.

He will return to court in November.
