Mitchell Crump pleaded guilty to associating with other Rebels bikies at Bradley Daniele’s funeral

All it took was one minute for three Rebels bikies to be stung by police while at the funeral for notorious fellow member Bradley Daniele.

Bikies in Australia- A short history

A Rebels bikie mourning the loss of a prominent fellow member wasn’t careful enough when on the hunt for booze after the funeral, a court heard.

One minute and poor judgment was all it took for Mitchell Dylan Crump, 27, and two of his fellow members to be stung by police with a consorting charge.

A prosecutor told the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday Rebels OMCG members were warned not to associate with each other at Bradley Daniele’s funeral on September 9.

“There were many members from outlaw motorcycle gangs from South Australia and interstate at the service,” the prosecutor said.

Police saw Crump and two other Rebels members wearing OMCG vests standing together at the Findon hotel bottle shop, which was across the road from the funeral service.

The prosecutor said their presence together was easily avoidable.

Daniele was aged only 29 when it is understood he suffered a heart attack in August and died at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Daniele, known for his prominent Rebels tattoo which stretched across his face, had been in the media several times for relatively petty crimes.

However, he jumped to prominence when he bashed convicted sex offender Hamzeh Bahrami on April 20, 2019 at the City Watchhouse.

For the assault Daniele had a further two months added to a 13 month, five week sentence for dangerous driving.

He was remembered as a “man of honour” with a “heart of gold” by family and friends at his funeral.

Crump, of Colonel Light Gardens, pleaded guilty to being present with two or more criminal organisation participants and wearing a prohibited item at a licenced premises.

Laura Parham, for Crump, told the court he was walking across the road to purchase some alcohol after the funeral when his two co-accused approached him.

“The three of them are together for one minute and seven seconds before dispersing,” she said.

The court heard Crump’s partner was five-months pregnant with their first child and he was working as a full-time plumber.

Ms Parham said the offending was at the lower end of the scale and there was no evidence of any criminal intent.

“He’s a hardworking young man who’s about to start his own family,” she said.

Ms Parham asked the court to impose a home detention sentence for Crump, which she said would serve as a reminder that he needs to take extra care in the future.

Magistrate Melanie Burton will sentence Crump next month.
