EMBATTLED Jetty Rd traders will once again be left out in the cold, but this time they couldn’t be happier.

With the tram repair work completed, Glenelg’s “Winter Wonderland” returns to Moseley Square.

The ice skating event, featuring toboggans for the first time, will provide a timely boost for store owners who reported large drops in trade roadworks,

Jetty Rd Mainstreet Committee member Amanda Wilson said: “Normally the toddlers have to sit in their pram and watch what’s going on, but this will allow them to get out there.”

“It’s the perfect start to winter to get people back to Glenelg.”

Winter Wonderland, from July 1-23, will be held in a marquee with a clear-domed roof – believed to be the only one of its kind in Australia.

There will also be a separate marquee with a toboggan slide.

It will take three days to set up the beachside ice rink, which requires 10,000 litres of water to be frozen by using 4km of refrigeration piping.

Ms Wilson’s children Jude, 4, and Scarlett, 2, are looking forward to venturing out onto the ice. “It’s going to be lots of fun,” Jude said.

Tickets are now on sale. Skating costs $15 for adults, $10 for children and $35 for families. Toboggan sessions cost $4 for one slide or $10 for three slides. Visit holdfast.sa.gov.au/winterwonderland
