GEORGY Keen has reinvented the corner shop in Glenelg, turning a former butcher into a up-market deli and cafe.
The 28 year old opened Superette at the corner of Moseley and College streets last month and has already generated a loyal clientele.
“It’s a bit of an ode to the older corner stores,” Keen says.
“I really wanted to open a little corner store with a European feel. I love the idea of supporting retail and hate to see empty shops in the community I grew up in.”
The tiny shop stocks a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, sauces, muesli, coffee and tea and flowers, along with espresso coffee and light meals.
“I wanted to create a place I’d want to shop at and have a curated selection of products created with integrity – something really welcoming and people would want to come back to,” Keen says.
