For many football fans, a visit to the Checkside Tavern was a must-do before watching a match at Football Park. Now, it has a totally new look.

It was the place hundreds of people used to gather for a drink before attending a match at Football Park, and now the old Checkside Tavern at West Lakes is set to reopen as the Mosaic Hotel.

In February, it was announced that the former popular watering hole for footy fans would be given a $4 million facelift as part of the transformation of West Lakes.

Now, the new Mosaic Hotel will open its doors next Thursday September 17.

The SANFL-owned venue closed as the Checkside Tavern in March when all South Australian pubs closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

With the redevelopment already planned, the decision was made not to reopen until it was complete.

Redeveloped on the same footprint as the former tavern, the new-look hotel features various bar and dining areas, an alfresco deck with two-way fireplace, sports bar with 10 TV screens and TAB facilities and gaming room with 40 machines.

The project has been delivered by Pascale Construction.

The hotel’s general manager Emilee Moore is an internationally trained chef and has spent a lifetime in food and hospitality, growing up in her family-owned pub, the former Brecknock Hotel.

“We’re really looking forward to reopening our doors to a wide demographic of people from all over Adelaide,” she said.

The Mosaic’s head chef is Amanda Gutte, who has cooked at many Adelaide venues, including the Adelaide Casino, Convention Centre and Stamford Hotel.

The Mosaic is located adjacent to the new WEST development, where work recently began on a $20 million community hub featuring a library, cafe, medical centre and allied health services.
