From the perfect colour, blow dry or cut, Safa Amin has garnered a loyal customer base for her expertise in hairdressing – a skill that’s led to her claiming this year’s title as South Australia’s best hairdresser.
Ms Amin, who started hairdressing 16 years ago and now runs ‘Hair by Safa’ at Findon, said her secret is the “brand, education, atmosphere, and consultation”.
“I’m obviously not the best of the best, but I’m the best because of (the) clients that I attract,” Ms Amin told The Advertiser.
She said she’s built a strong reputation mastering a few key skills and keeping a “chilled and private atmosphere” at her appointment-only business – which runs out of her mother’s beauty salon.
“I specialise in colours, cutting and keratin,” she said, adding “blow-drying” to her list of skills.
“You have to know what you’re good at,” Ms Amin said.
“I’ve done it since I was 17 years old, and I’ve tried all services, and then decided I’m just going to provide private appointments and … do what I’m really comfortable with.”
Last year, the 34-year-old was crowned SA’s best hair colourist for 2024 and said she loved working in her small, private space, which gives her time to have one-on-one with clients.
“I don’t want to put pressure on myself physically … but I do want to have my own local shop, and … do more of a holistic-type salon,” she said about her future plans.
