She started her career as a hairdresser at just 17 – now 16 years later, Safa Amin has been voted the best hair colourist in SA.
The 33-year-old runs her business ‘Hair by Safa’ out of her mother’s beauty salon in Findon, specialising in hair colouring, blow-drying and cutting – three elements of her trade she said she felt naturally drawn to and has “gotten better and better at” over the years.
Ms Amin said she loved working in her small, private space, one-on-one with clients, where she is able to build a strong relationship with them and provide a service that leaves them looking and feeling good.
“Obviously I’m passionate about colouring and the art of hairdressing, but at the same time, I get to build really strong bonds and friendships with my clients as well,” she said.
“To me it’s about the whole service, making clients feel good on the inside as well the outside.”
She said she hoped to grow her business further in the future but also keep it “local, private and peaceful”, continuing to prioritise one-on-one customer experiences.
“That way you’re able to give them all your time, effort and energy into the service,” she said.
“I feel like that’s why people come back, because I put all of myself into what I do.”
