Allan Shane Dunn jailed for filming himself sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl

Another man will join fellow predators behind bars after they sexually abused and filmed a child in state care, who took her own life months later.

Another man has been jailed for filming himself sexually abusing a “very vulnerable” victim, who ended up taking her own life months later.

Allan Shane Dunn, 35, lied to police about the vile assault, telling them it was his girlfriend in the video.

During sentencing, the District Court heard Dunn met the 15-year-old victim, who was under the Guardianship of the Minister at the time, through a friend.

Dunn met the victim in a motel room in January 2022.

The court heard Dunn filmed the victim performing a sex act on him and later had sexual intercourse with her.

Police were alerted to where the girl was and came to the motel room while Dunn was still there.

Dunn initially denied any sexual activity with the victim and told police the videos were of him and his girlfriend.

The Whyalla father pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and producing child exploitation material.

The court heard the victim took her own life a few months later, with the victim’s mother saying she was very angry with Dunn and the other offenders for what they did.

Cousins Jason Byron Burgoyne, 40, and Ralph Burgoyne, 45, were jailed earlier this year for sexually abusing the same victim.

During Jason’s sentencing last month, the District Court heard his assault was captured in a Snapchat video filmed by Ralph, which a jury was forced to watch.

The court heard Ralph injected the victim with methamphetamine on December 15, 2021 and caused her to perform fellatio on him, which he filmed.

Later that day, the victim visited Jason’s Port Lincoln home and performed fellatio on him and Ralph, which he filmed again.

After a trial in the Port Augusta District Court in April, Jason was found guilty by a jury of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Ralph pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse and producing child exploitation material and was jailed for more than four years earlier this year.

Jason was sentenced to three years and three months jail, with a non-parole period of two years and three months.

Child Protection Department chief executive Jackie Bray told The Advertiser the victim’s tragic death has had devastating effects on her family, friends and the staff who cared for her.

“Children and young people in care often have experienced significant trauma and may be especially vulnerable to sexual abuse,” she said.

Ms Bray said the department w

as working to prevent the sexual exploitation of vulnerable young people.

This includes embedding Australia’s best practice model Mackillop Institute’s Power to Kids Program in its residential care homes, to improve children and young people’s awareness of respectful relationships, grooming, sexual development and sexual health.

“As a department, we treat concerns for our most vulnerable young people extremely seriously and provide them with a range of supports,” Ms Bray said.

“Supports are provided specific to the young person’s needs.”

Auxiliary Judge Barrett said while Dunn may not have known about the victim’s vulnerabilities it was his responsibility to behave properly with her.

“You were under the influence of methamphetamine at the time and you accept that you behaved poorly towards the victim,” he said.

Dunn was sentenced to three years and one month jail, with a non-parole period of two years.

The sentence was backdated to January 22, 2022.
