Where to watch local footy on Anzac Day 2021 in SA – from country footy to the SANFL
Anzac Day is one of the biggest days on the Aussies Rules calendar – and there’s more than 20 local matches you can watch in from the suburbs to the country.

It is one of the biggest days of the Aussie rules season and – after lockdowns prevented any matches last year – there is plenty of local footy for fans to head to this Anzac Day.
Thousands across the state will head to matches from the SANFL, to country footy and the suburbs.
Here’s where you can watch a match on Sunday.
SANFL
LEAGUE
Woodville-West Torrens v North Adelaide – Woodville Oval at 2.10pm
The marquee Anzac Day match in South Australian football, the SANFL grand final rematch pits premiers Woodville-West Torrens against runners-up North Adelaide in a highly anticipated clash.
The fierce rivals’ battle at Woodville Oval Sunday will be one of three SANFL encounters broadcast live on advertiser.com.au this weekend.
Both sides are coming off big wins in round two, setting the scene for what should be an enthralling match.
And, in a historic move, the SANFL will hold two grand final rematches on Anzac Round.
2019 grand finalists Glenelg and Port Adelaide will meet on Saturday night after they were unable to face each other last season.
UNDER-16 GRAND FINAL
South Adelaide v Glenelg – Noarlunga Oval at 11am
The Panthers and Tigers are set to play off in the under-16 Torrens University Cup grand final at Noarlunga Oval, which will also be live streamed on advertiser.com.au on Sunday.
South finished the season top, but Glenelg (third) will be aiming to claim an unprecedented fifth successive under-16 flag.
ADELAIDE FOOTY LEAGUE
DIVISION FIVE
Colonel Light Gardens v Kenilworth – Mortlock Park at 2.40pm
There will be no top flight games played on Anzac Day this season – all five matches remain Saturday fixtures – but you can still get your Adelaide Footy League fix this Sunday.
In division five, Colonel Light Gardens will host Kenilworth in a triple-header at Mortlock Park with an Anzac ceremony to take place before the A grade clash.
The Lions have started the season with two-straight victories while the Kookaburras – losing grand finalists in 2020 – should be looking to atone for a hefty loss last week.
DIVISION SEVEN
Central United v Mitchell Park – Mofflin Reserve at 2.30pm
Mofflin Reserve will also be the setting for a match on Sunday when Mitchell Park travel to face an in-form Central United.
The Bulldogs will wear specially designed Anzac guernseys for the occasion, which will be auctioned off later that evening with all proceeds donated to Legacy.
Central United has been one of the early movers in division seven and last season’s wooden spooners will be looking to make it three wins on the trot.
COUNTRY FOOTY
HILLS
Mount Barker v Hahndorf – Mount Barker Oval at 2.40pm
About 1000 people are expected to pack Mount Barker Oval to see the Hills Football League’s traditional Anzac Day clash.
High-flying Hahndorf have dominated the fixture in recent years, winning four of the past five clashes, and will no doubt go in as re-hot favourites once again.
Mount Barker finds itself in an unfamiliar position on the bottom of the ladder after two rounds and will be hoping to snatch a first win of the season.
The day is set to begin with a “car door” Dawn Service at the oval at 6am.
GREAT SOUTHERN
Strathalbyn v Langhorne Creek – Strathalbyn Oval at 4.15pm
McLaren v Willunga – McLaren Vale Oval at 7.15pm
Traditional Anzac Day rivals Strathalbyn and Langhorne Creek will once again meet in what is always one of the most highly-anticipated clashes on the GSFL calendar.
A twilight fixture will be the setting for the Roosters and Hawks this time, with a COVID management plan for 2400 approved and a big crowd expected.
Strathalbyn will don Anzac guernseys, which will be auctioned off in the clubrooms after the match.
McLaren and Willunga, which clashed on Anzac Day in 2019, will also meet again – this time under lights at McLaren Vale Oval.
Both the Eagles and Demons hold 2-0 win-loss records coming into the big match.
SOUTHERN
Morphett Vale v Christies Beach – Morphett Vale at 2.30pm
While Anzac Round in the SFL is usually known for the grand final rematch, this season Morphett Vale and Christies Beach will take centre stage on day.
Last year’s grand finalists Flagstaff Hill and Noarlunga will still do battle on Saturday.
BAROSSA, LIGHT & GAWLER
Angaston v Nuriootpa – Angaston Oval at 2.20pm
It wouldn’t be Anzac Day footy without a bit of good-hearted rivalry and that’s exactly what you should expect at Angaston Oval.
The old Barossa enemies will surely provide an entertaining match.
The Panthers will wear an Anzac guernsey featuring the names Angaston locals who did not return from overseas service on the back.
ADELAIDE PLAINS
Mallala v United – Mallala Oval at 3.30pm
Last year’s APFL premiers Mallala host United who will be looking to get off the mark this season.
The Tigers had a slow start to the season in round one when they were on the wrong end of Hamley Bridge’s first win in almost five years.
YORKE PENINSULA
Paskeville v Bute – Paskeville Oval at 2.40pm
Bute, which went 9-1 and made the finals in the APFL last year while Yorke Peninsula chose not to play, should go to Paskeville fancying its chances in this Anzac Day clash.
EASTERN EYRE
Eastern Ranges v Cowell – Cleve at 2.30pm
Eastern Ranges will wear commemorative Anzac guernseys in its clash against Cowell with a limited number them to be auctioned after the match.
All proceeds will go to the SA Anzac appeal.
FAR NORTH
Olympic Dam v Roxby Districts – Roxby at 2.30pm
Hornridge v East Roxby – Roxby at 4.30pm
The Far North Football League will play its first matches in more than 600 days with an Anzac Day double header for round one in Roxby Downs.
Hornridge and East Roxby will face off in a rematch of the 2019 grand final in the late fixture while Olympic Dam and Roxby Districts are set to battle in the early game.
The league did not play in 2020.
KANGAROO ISLAND
Western Districts v Kingscote – Western Districts at 3.30pm
Another league beginning its season this weekend, Kangaroo Island clubs Western Districts and Kingscote headline the league’s first round on Sunday.
The player judged best on ground will be awarded the Jamie Larcombe Medal, which has been presented since 2011.
The medal is named in honour of Sapper Jamie Larcombe, who was killed in the line of duty in February, 2011, aged 21, while serving in Afghanistan.
He was part of the Western District Football Club.
PORT LINCOLN
Tasman v Wayback – Centenary Oval at 2.40pm
A rematch of last season’s grand final, Wayback will be looking to exact revenge on reigning premiers Tasman in this opening round clash.
SPENCER GULF
West Augusta v Central Augusta – Central Oval at 3.10pm
Solomontown v Prop Risdon – Memorial Oval at 3.10pm
Not one but two matches will be on offer for Spencer Gulf footy fans in the opening round of the season on Sunday afternoon.
In Port Augusta, rivals West and Central will face off while Solomontown and defeated 2020 grand finalist Prop Risdon will clash in Port Pirie.
WESTERN BORDER
South Gambier v North Gambier – Blue Lake Sports Park at 2.30pm
All eyes in Mount Gambier will be set on the battle between North and South on Anzac Day afternoon – and it looms as a fantastic fixture.
The Demons are 2-0 heading into the match and have come off a strong 2020 season where they made the grand final in the combined Limestone Coast Football League.
The Tigers meanwhile are still the reigning premiers from 2019 and will be looking to atone for a loss to East Gambier last time out.
WHYALLA
Central Whyalla v Roopena – Bennett Oval at 2.20pm
Round two of the Whyalla Football League pits Central against Roopena in a rematch of last year’s preliminary final.
The Roos will be hoping to get one back on the Roosters, who went on to claim the flag.
